Annual Award Recognizes Male Executive who has Championed Women in the Workplace

April 13, 2015 (New York, NY) — Women in Sports and Events (WISE), the leading voice and resource for women in the business of sports, today announced that Casey Wasserman, chairman and CEO of Wasserman Media Group, will be presented with the 2015 WISE Champion Award during the upcoming 2015 WISE Women of the Year Awards Luncheon on June 16 in New York City.

The WISE Champion Award annually recognizes a male executive who has championed the advancement of women in the workplace. Past recipients of the WISE Champion Award include Ross Greenburg, former president of HBO Sports; Sean McManus, chairman of CBS Sports; and Dick Ebersol, former chairman of NBC Sports.

"Casey Wasserman's vision, commitment and drive have been the keys to his success," said Kathleen Francis, national chair of WISE. "While building his company over the past decade, Casey has continuously hired, supported and elevated women to Wasserman Media Group's most senior levels, and in doing so, has set an important example for others in our business. For his on-going efforts and advocacy, we are thrilled to honor him."

Founded in 2002, Wasserman Media Group is a leading sports, entertainment and lifestyle marketing and management agency that represents brands, properties and talent on a global basis. In addition to serving as chairman and CEO of the company, Wasserman is also president and CEO of the Wasserman Foundation, a trustee of the William J. Clinton Foundation, a trustee of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and a member of the Executive Committee for the UCLA Centennial Campaign.

Wasserman stated, "It is truly an honor to receive the 2015 WISE Champion Award, and I thank the board for the recognition. One of the cores values of our organization is inclusivity, so being recognized as a contributor to diversity in sports is very important to me and all of Wasserman."

Recipients of the WISE Champion Award are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Champions the role of women in the business of sports and events through the successful creation of new jobs, mentoring and networking opportunities
  • Clearly communicates a vision for women in the industry and their continued advancement
  • Shows consistent commitment to the promotion of women's careers and recognition of their professional accomplishments

As previously announced, the 2015 WISE Women of the Year honorees are Amy Latimer, president of TD Garden; Lara Price, executive vice president, business operations of the Philadelphia 76ers; and Mary Scott, president of United Entertainment Group, an Edelman Company.
